Continuing Education (CEU) Requirements

Registered Nurses (RN) & Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN)

For Registered Nurses (RN)

Continuing education (CE/CEUs) requirements for Registered Nurses (RNs) are set by each individual state Board of Nursing and may vary by state and renewal cycle.

Most U.S. states require RNs to complete a specific number of contact hours during each license renewal period. Some states also require education in specific topics, such as pain management, opioid prescribing, or implicit bias.

Slimming Grace Academy courses that are ANCC-accredited may be used toward RN license renewal, depending on your state’s requirements.

📌 Example:

  • Arizona RNs are required to complete 30 contact hours every two years for license renewal.

  • ANCC-accredited CEUs are widely accepted by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.

Important: It is the responsibility of the licensee to confirm their individual state requirements prior to renewal.

For APRNs (NP, CNS, CNM, CRNA)

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) typically have two layers of continuing education requirements:

1. State Licensure Requirements

Set by the state Board of Nursing and may include:

  • A required number of CE hours per renewal cycle

  • Specific topic mandates (e.g., pharmacology, opioids)

  • Practice-hour documentation

2. National Certification Requirements

Set by the certifying body, such as:

  • ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center)

  • AANP (American Association of Nurse Practitioners)

Most APRNs must meet both state licensure and national certification CE requirements to maintain active practice.

ANCC Certification Renewal (APRN)

ANCC-certified APRNs typically must complete:

  • 75 continuing education contact hours every 5 years, which may include:

    • Pharmacology hours

    • Practice-relevant education

    • Accredited CE activities

Slimming Grace Academy courses are ANCC-accredited and may be used toward ANCC certification renewal when applicable.

AANP Certification Renewal (APRN)

AANP-certified Nurse Practitioners may renew certification by:

  • Completing 100 CE contact hours (with required pharmacology content), or

  • A combination of CE and clinical practice hours

ANCC-accredited CE activities are commonly accepted for AANP certification renewal, subject to AANP requirements.

Accreditation & Acceptance Disclaimer

Slimming Grace Academy is an ANCC-accredited continuing education provider. While ANCC-accredited CEUs are widely accepted by state Boards of Nursing and national certifying bodies, acceptance of continuing education is determined by individual state Boards and certifying organizations.
